It was noon on a hot, sunny Wednesday afternoon when we decided to visit Five Guys Burgers & Fries on Wellington Road in London for the very first time. I had heard from friends that have been to a Five Guys in the U.S, that it was a place that I had to try.
As we walked into the bright and clean restaurant we immediately joined a line about 15 people deep, all waiting to place their order. It was busy, but the line moved along much faster than expected. Standing in line gives you time to decide what you’re going to have and it was a nice touch that a sign gave patrons information on where the potatoes that they were were using that day had come from. Not only did they have a sign that indicated that they were from P.E.I, but they also included the farm where they were grown.
Some people call me cheap, but I prefer to use the term “frugal” so my wife and I opted for a “Little Hamburger.” It wasn’t any smaller in size than their “Hamburger” but it just had one ground beef pattie instead of two like the slightly more expensive Hamburger. The Little Burger was priced at $5.19, which seemed like a reasonable value. Our guests decided to opt for the “Hamburger” and pay the extra for another ground beef pattie.
After you order your burger and choose from a variety of toppings, you wait for your number to be called. A word about the toppings; There’s a myriad of toppings from which you can choose. From Jalapenos, A-1 Steak Sauce to Grilled Onions or Grilled Mushrooms. Even toppings that might be considered “premium” at other similar restaurants are included for no extra charge.

As for the French Fries…Sometimes fries are just fries; Nothing special. In the case of Five Guys French Fries, they are incredible! Deep fried in Peanut Oil, they’re fresh cut and they give you a generous helping. Their regular french fry order comes in a generous sized container, but when they put the french fry container into the bag with your other food, they put another couple of scoops of french fries right into the brown paper bag. A regular order of fries was really like two or three orders of fries. For those hungry for a good value, Five Guys doesn’t disappoint in the french fry department.
So how was it? It was EXCELLENT. If my Doctor hadn’t recommended that I lose some weight, I would eat there everyday.
The beef was good quality, the toppings were fresh and tasty, the fries were some of the best I have tasted. I can’t think of a bad thing to say about my first experience at Five Guys Burgers & Fries.
If you like a good hamburger for a decent price, you have to visit Five Guys Burgers & Fries. You won’t be disappointed.
