New Wortley Village Wine Bar Opens September 3

By A. Paul Mitchell, London Dining Review

The new Gusto Food and Wine Bar in Wortley Village has announced in a web post that they will open their doors on Monday, September 3. Job postings and internet postings have been circulating for the last month about the new eatery launching beside the Valu-Mart at 181 Wortley Road. The restaurant has been searching for all kitchen staff, but a Kijiji ad for the sous chef position reveals interesting perspectives on the restaurant’s anticipated food program:

“Must be passionate about great food and being creative… Sorry not looking for big box restaurant types looking for the ones where this is what they want to do and want to learn. Dessert and bread making skills a deffinate asset.” (sic)

Gusto Food and Wine Bar is being launched by Christopher Whittle whose LinkedIn account lists him as “Director of Sales – Sub-Prime Financing” for London Financing. A member of Oaks Golf Club, his previous occupations have been as “Director, Business Development at Medbuy Corporation and Group Purchasing Manager at Newfoundland and Labrador Health Boards Association” according to his profile.

Chris recently posted on the Wortley Village Facebook page explaining what guests might expect:

“Hi All…We are really excited about opening Gusto for everyone to enjoy in the Village. We are working hard on being ready for Monday, September 3rd. Gusto will be offering a fab selection of both red and white wine (some 40+ offerings), some really great beers on tap and some very interesting and creative menu items that are meant to be shared (along with a feature entree most nights). Our philosphy is simple – organic, fresh and local ingredients on our plates and diverse, interesting and balanced wines in our glasses served by our ethusastic, friendly and knowledgeable staff! For more information, you can visit our website (coming soon) or drop me a note. Looking forward to seeing you all very soon at Gusto! Cheers. Chris.” (sic)

The search for an in-house baker promises that buns and pastries will be fresh.
